Firstly, as a teenager, I was very prone to mini breakouts, a few spots on my chin and forehead. However, as I got into my 20's my skin got progressively worse, my forehead and chin would constantly be covered in spots. It wasn't the worst ance you have ever seen but it certainly wasn't crystal clear.

Over the years, I tried everything, any product that beauty blogger said was amazing, from Liz Earle to Emma Hardie, but nothing worked for me.
It wasn't until my sister Sarah talked to me about 'knowing your skin', that it made me realise that I wasn't really thinking about what I was putting on, I was just shoving it on and hoping for the best.
These pictures below have been taken over the course of the last year in which my skin was at its worse. As you can see, my forehead, chin and down my neck were the worse areas.
It isn't the best pictures, purely because I didn't like taking non-makeup pics.

Now, that is my BIGGEST tip, get to know your skin. Products that make people glow can make you look worse, trust me I know.  I have slightly dry cheeks, and an oily t-zone and chin area, which can be a nightmare to find the right products.
However, I finally did. I wanna talk you through some products that really helped with my skin.
The picture was taken in the last month when my skin was at it's best.

To start it off, the biggest change in my skin routine has been these products below. Mario Badescu: Flower and Tonic Mask and The Ordinary: Granactive Retinoid 2% In Squalane.

Mario Badescu: Flower and Tonic Mask

It is my all-time favourite facemask, for a few reasons.
Some purifying masks can strip the skin, feeling very harsh, however, this is very gentle on the skin, whilst still doing its job. It is a very easy application, dries very quickly and evenly. It doesn't feel heavy or restrictive on the face which some mask can feel.
I use a facecloth or cotton pads for effortless removal. It leaves my face feeling very smooth, clean and refreshed. It also calms down redness that I have from any breakouts and removes excess oil from my face.
I have been using this twice a week, and have really seen the difference in my skin.

The Ordinary: Granactive Retinoid 2% In Squalane

I hadn't really dived into using The Ordinary skincare products, I had heard some great things but it just sounded very complicated to me. The Ordinary is all about finding the right combination for your face which did put me off. However, my sister, Sarah found this for me.
I have been using it for the last 7 months and it has done wonders for my skin.
I use a droplet every night, seeing a massive difference, on my forehead in particular. It has removed any excess oil from my face and has helped the pigmented of older spots.
It is a  thin consistency that feels light on my face, with no overpowering scent, which is a bonus.
The only ''bad'' comment would be, I had to be careful during the summer, due to the Retonials leaving your skin easier to burn. Using an SPF is recommended whilst using this product.
Nevertheless, I HIGHLY recommend having a look at The Ordinary Products.

I also just want to add that if I am having a bad skin day, which I still have, I still use my trusty old Sudocrem, applying it at nighttime on any raging spots.

The last two products are two Glossier products. Glossier: Priming Moisturiser and Glossier: Milky Jelly Cleanser.

Glossier: Milky Jelly Cleanser.

When I originally bought this I wasn't the biggest fan, I didn't think it really worked, however, now I swear by it. I use it every morning and every night to freshen my skin. The light formula makes my skin feel soft without having to use a lot of harsh chemicals.
In terms of removing make-up, I think it is perfect to remove a minimal face,  however, I  do need to use another product (Soap and Glory) to help with heavier makeup, using the jelly cleanser as a second cleanse.
With the combination of the other products, this has assisted in the clear up of my face.

Glossier: Priming Moisturiser

When it comes to moisturisers I get nervous, I have oily skin so anything with the word 'hydrating' just puts me off.  In spite of that, I thought that I would give this a try, as it came in a set that I bought. I use it after I have cleansed, and I can have noticed the difference in the texture of my face. It isn't too oily which has meant that my dry cheeks now feel hydrated and soft. The more oily parts of my face haven't been affected, they just feel clean. It doesn't feel sticky and doesn't have a strong scent which is great.
Furthermore, I have also seen a big improvement in how my make-up sits and stays in place, for a long period of time.
Like I said above, with the combination of the other products, this has assisted in the clear up of my face.

Like I mentioned it's all about knowing what is right for your skin, but trust me you'll get there.
Let me know what your go-to skincare products are?
I am looking for a product that helps with red cheeks, so if you know any, let me know?

Have a good day!

First of all, I am loving these posts, I have certainly found the love for Exploring Edinburgh. I find it so interesting to find new places that I just wouldn't have thought before.  With lots of college work to do, I thought I would squeeze this post in on this sunny Sunday to show you new cute places I found.
If you have any more suggestions just let me know in the comments, it would be much appreciated.

I wanna start with a place that I have seen a lot on Insta, Circus Lane. It is basically a lane in the Stockbridge area, which has cute houses and a cobbled road. If you love all that then you could love this street, as you can see from the pics it is stunning.
You can get many shots on this street for Insta, however, it is just a street so maybe don't plan on being there for more than 20 minutes ahah

Now let's take you to a vegan place in Bruntsfield, Seed for the Soul. This place is quite far out from the heart of Edinburgh, however, it was well worth the walk. My friend Rowan had told me about it, and it didn't disappoint. The place itself is beautiful, equipped with fairy lights, and great decor.  The place is completely vegan, and on a plus gluten-free. We went for the vegan nachos, which were packed with flavour and the maple pancakes which were delightful.
The staff and atmosphere were very friendly, and we were given a free turmeric coffee, what a bonus!!  Completely recommend.

The last place, for now, is the Herringbone Goldenacre which we stumbled upon on our way to Leith. We were needing a place to grab a cocktail and have a chatter, and this was perfect. It was such a chilled atmosphere and a very pretty aesthetic, they had a good amount of cocktails and a whole menu worth of gin. I am so glad we went in!!

Like I said, I am completely enjoying exploring so let me know your favourite places to go?? Have you been to any above?
Love, Emma

I have lived in Scotland for all 23 years of my life, having visited Edinburgh millions of times, I thought I knew the place. However, when two of my camp friends visited me at the start of the year I realised that I had actually had no idea of 'cool'  places to take them. When I was contacted to do a collaboration to find some exciting bars, tourists attractions, restaurants and hotels in Edinburgh I jumped at the chance.

Over two weekends, I explored new places that 1. I had always wanted to go and 2. New places I found on my hunt.  I went for places as I call a little 'hipster', to places that were a little classier.

Restaurants

The first place I went to was Hula Juice Cafe, being gluten-free I've always wanted to give this place try. The cafe is not only gluten but vegan as well, which is perfect as I try to limit my dairy intake.
The food was amazing, it has a range of breakfast and brunch options, although the avocado on toast was tempting, my sister and I shared an Acai bowl, in addition, I had a matcha tea whilst my sister had a smoothie. The menu was clearly labelled with a GF which made it easy for me to know what was gluten free.
It is based in the Grassmarket so it is in the centre of a touristy spot.  The staff were so friendly and it was a lively atmosphere, the place was very insta worthy. It is definitely somewhere that I would return to.

The second place I visited was The Refinery, located in St Andrews Square,  a little more upmarket. Again it was somewhere I heard a lot of great things about, so I thought it would be perfect.
First of all, the staff were super helpful and gave me a gluten free menu when I went in. This gives them a massive thumbs up already, restaurants that have a separate gluten-free menu make it so simple for me to know what I can have, without having to search.
Inside the decor was stunning, very rustic and a homely vibe, lots of plants and prints on the wall. Great space, great location and the food was amazing. I went with a chicken BLT , which was divine. On the side, we got a view cocktails (obvs), which again were stunning.
Both Sarah and I said that we would both 100% go back.

Bars

Moving along to bars, again I have gone with a 'cool' place and then a more classy place just to show you the difference in Edinburgh.
First stop I went with was The Boozy Cow. located in Frederick Street, again somewhere so central.
I have actually been here before, but it is one of my favourite places to go. They have some of the best cocktails, some cocktails that are so extra (which I love). The cocktails are visually pleasing, so cute and so insta worthy.
The first cocktail I went with was the 'Painkiller', which was meant to be on fire, however, the bartender put the paper straw in and the straw went up in flames (LOL). So that had to be blown out quickly, I like to be extra but not set the bar on fire extra. The cocktail was a little strong but if you like it strong, go for it!
Next cocktail I had was The Twizzler, very sweet, which I loved. It also came with a lollipop and a flying saucer, which made it 10x better.
I've been before and would 100% go again, would completely recommend. The bathroom was by far my fav part, all about girl power!

We then made our way to Grand Cru to a more classier atmosphere, this is on Hanover Street. We stumbled along this as it started to snow on the way to another bar, and it looked really chic. The atmosphere was very lively, and it was quite busy, however, nevertheless, we got a seat right at the window which was great to people watch. They had some of the basic cocktails, but they also had some more exciting ones. I went for a salted caramel cocktail and it was just as you think, amazing. It was quite sweet, so you could only have one,
I then went a strawberry daiquiri, which would be perfect for a hot day, maybe not when it was snowing.
Overall, I loved the atmosphere and it was a great location.

Tourist Attractions

There are plenty of incredible tourist attractions around Edinburgh, you have the castle, the museum and Mary Queen Close, however, there is one thing that I have never been too; The Scot Monument.   I honestly couldn't quite understand how you got up it, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to have a look.
The entrance is on the left side of the building, and some good news, if you are a student you get in for cheaper.
Biggest advice, if you have vertigo or claustrophobia I wouldn't suggest it. You have small staircases to go up and let just say if someone was to come down at the same time, prepare to get a little close with them. It was also a little windy near the top, so hold on to your hats.
However, the views are stunning, which makes it all worth it. You can see across Edinburgh from so many different angles, and they are just breathtaking.
It is something that if I had a visitor over again, I would definitely take them up the Scot Monument.

I really enjoyed exploring Edinburgh and can't to try new areas. Let me know if you have any good spots that I can go??
